October 6 & 7 were very busy days! No posts until now due to camping in a beautiful White Mountains National Forest Campground with no wifi among other amenities. But we sat right above a stream, surrounded by tall trees in beautiful color. Dry camping at its best!
After we arrived on the 6th, we headed straight over to the Mt. Washington Cog Railroad for our 1:30 reservation. It was a gorgeous day, clear skies and pleasant temperatures. It was amazing how you didn't notice the high percent of the incline, until you stood up! Walking to the front to take pictures took a lot of effort and it looked like you were going to fall backwards at any moment. Once at the top, the views were incredible! There is a meteorological station, an old hotel museum and a snack bar/gift shop. A video showed the winter conditions at the summit-not a place you would want to be with the terrific wind speed and freezing temps.
We all enjoyed a camp meal consisting of steak, rice pilaf and tossed salad. Roughing it is so difficult!!!
On Friday, the 7th, we headed out for our tour of the Kancagamus Highway, Crawford Notch,
Franconia Notch and the Cannon Aerial Tram. It was an even better weather day-not a cloud in the sky with mid 70 temps. We did discover a couple of covered bridges, but mostly enjoyed some magnificent scenery! I think our favorite was the ride on the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tram. The views at the top were incredible. We enjoyed hiking the short rim trail and climbing to the top of the observation tower. All in all, it was a fantastic two days in beautiful New Hampshire!
