Despite the rain, we headed out to explore the community of Kenai. The Russian influence is strong in this part of the peninsula as evidenced by an historic Russian Orthodox Church and Chapel. We stopped by the visitor center, which was very impressive for a town of this size, and snapped some pictures of the historic church. Then we were off in search of Bullwinkle!
We have seen moose-cows and calves, but we have yet to spot a bull with those massive horns. Took a loop road along the Kasilof River, but only saw a cow and calf. Stopped for a great lunch at a local cafe then discovered a gravel road with the right kind of vegetation to attract moose! But, no luck for us. So the moose remains elusive despite all the warning signs!
Tomorrow we head about 45 miles south to Ninilchik.
