Friday was a quiet day at camp. Bob caught a cough from one of the fishing guides so he drugged up and rested for two days of being on the water. I enjoyed reading, reading, reading and looking at the marvelous view. I still can't get over how beautiful it is when you crest the hill and start the drive down to Homer. Simply spectacular!
Saturday was an outstanding day on the water. We took a scenic boat cruise on Kachemak Bay out passed Gull Island, Kachemak Bay State Park and onto Seldovia-reachable only by water. Pictures to follow include some sea life shots, including jellyfish that were everywhere. We saw many whales breaching, but just enjoyed it-too hard to catch that image since you never know when it's going to happen! I did happen to capture a nice tail
shot.
If you ever watch Deadliest Catch, you will recognize one of the two crab vessels that were docked in Homer today- the Cornelia Marie and the Saga.
At the end of the day (cool, windy and big waves), we stopped in at the Salty Dawg Saloon. It's a landmark here so a warming drink was in order! The inside is covered and decorated with dollar bills left by patrons. We enjoyed dinner at Alice's Champagne Palace-not a palace but good food surrounded by a bunch of locals: jeans, fleece jackets, boots-the fashion statement in Alaska!
Finally, on our return to camp, we were treated to a beautiful sunset.
We could have slept long and hard but Bob had to be at the docks by 6:45 so off we went bright and early. My consolation for the early start was a Starbucks White Chocolate Mocha!
Tomorrow the fishing report! If successful, my Valley Spring peeps-we will have a big get together with halibut on the menu!
Sounds like a great day...like the puffin picture!
